Praxis test

What is PRAXIS?

The Praxis Series is an Educational Testing Service (ETS) program that provides test and other services for states to use as part of their teacher certification process.  The Praxis Series assessments are also used by colleges and universities to qualify individuals for entry into teacher education programs.  A number of professional associations and organizations also use these tests.

PRAXIS I:  Academic Skills Assessments are designed to be taken early in your college career to measure you reading, writing, listening and mathematical skills.  (NOTE:  Pennsylvania no longer requires the listening portion of the assessment.)

Copies of the Praxis Registration Booklet are available at the Teacher Information Station located in the Transfer and Career Advising Center, which is located on the 2nd floor of the Rollins Center on the Newtown Campus!

The Praxis I Tests Held at Bucks!

Students are advised that these are open to the general public as well; therefore, seating may be limited.  Registration dates are about one month before the tests.

Students can register to take the PRAXIS I via the form in the Registration Bulletin (FREE copies can be found at the Teacher Information Station in the Transfer and Career Advising Center), on the web using www.ets.org/praxis or by phone at 609-771-7395.  (Phone registration costs an additional $25)

**NEW INFORMATION ABOUT PRAXIS TESTING FOR EDUCATION/SPECIAL EDUCATION MAJORS********

Subject: Preparing Pennsylvania Teachers for the PRAXIS I Examinations

In order to meet the highly qualified provisions of current law, special education teachers have an option to take the PRAXIS series of tests.  The Pennsylvania Department of Education, Bureau of Special Education, in cooperation with the Pennsylvania Training and Technical Assistance Network and the Pennsylvania Partnership for Professional Development is pleased to announce a cost-free opportunity for teachers to enroll in an online course

from the PLATO Company. This staff development opportunity will prepare the teacher to take the PRAXIS I examination in reading, writing and mathematics.   Tentative plans are underway for a second course to prepare teachers for the subject area tests in mathematics and science.  The second course will start in July. There is no requirement for a teacher to attend any workshop.  All work is completed on-line and the teacher can work at his or her own pace.

A teacher will receive 60 hours of Act 48 credit for successful completion of the course.

There is a 50.00 registration fee, and the fee will be returned upon successful completion of the course.

There will be statewide introductory workshops at three locations in the state.  These workshops are optional for teachers who decide to participate in the PRAXIS I staff development opportunity.

Each teacher who registers to participate in the course will be supported with technical assistance on accessing the PLATO courseware from designated PaTTAN and Intermediate Unit staff persons.

Please go to the PaTTAN web site in order to register.  All participants must register through the PaTTAN website.  The registration fee must be paid before you start the course.   Checks must made

payable to Lancaster-Lebanon Intermediate Unit #13.

Upon successful registration, each teacher will be provided with a packet of materials from the PLATO company.  The packet will provide instructions on how to access the PLATO web site.
